Vacation rentals, fire truck repair and kennel on Central

The council unanimously approved a shelter and pet supply store run by animal welfare nonprofit Tails Together. It will fill the now-closed Apelian Carpets store space at 2900 Central St. The “managed intake shelter” will temporarily house up to 20 dogs and run a foster program.

It will include training space, a community room, events, pet supplies and enclosures for animal adoptions, founder Kristina Rosinia said.

Land Use commissioners unanimously recommended approval of a foster organization’s special use application to kennel dogs overnight at 2900 Central St. as part of a larger pet store and adoption center for homeless animals.

A pet owner’s guide to local resources

Another shelter, Tails Together, 2900 Central St., plans to open later this year. It will offer adoption consultation for $50, a “white-glove adoption service” and private training service. Most animals available for adoption will be dogs and cats, but they’ll have small mammals, too (hedgehogs, guinea pigs, gerbils or rabbits).

The Evanston Land Use Commission approved a recommendation Wednesday night for a dog kennel at a new animal shelter and retail pet supply store at 2900 Central St.

The shelter and store, if approved by City Council, will be run by the animal welfare nonprofit Tails Together.
